Have you signed up to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards? Did you know that the Rona Sailing Project is an Approved Activity Provider (AAP)? Our voyages are eligible for Gold Residential Section of the award and at only £220 for a week-long voyage, its affordable, and there is no need to buy any further specialist equipment – we provide it all.
Our voyages will help you achieve your Gold Residential while having a fun time with new friends. Sailing with the RSP is an opportunity to discover new interests and talents you didn’t even know you had. Combining the DofE with a voyage with the Rona Sailing Project is an incredible way to develop essential skills for life and work and it meets the criteria of ‘..a shared activity or specific course with people you don’t know, in a residential setting away from home and in an unfamiliar environment’.
When you are sailing on a voyage, you are an active and vital member of the crew. You will participate in all aspects of life on board. On deck you will helm the boat, hoist and drop sails and undertake several evolutions by day and by night as such as tacking and gybing, mooring and anchoring. Below decks you will work collectively to create tasty, satisfying meals for the entire crew .You will also have some down time when you go ashore in ports in The Solent and the South Coast of England or as far as France or The Channel Islands if the conditions are right. No matter where you will go, you will have a lot of fun.
No experience? No problem – our Afterguard will be with you every step and wave of the way. If you have experience of sailing big boats, then the voyage will be an opportunity to further develop your skills and experience.
As well as completing your DofE Gold Residential you may also gain a Royal Yachting Association qualification such as Start Yachting or Competent Crew.
