We are delighted to introduce another of our volunteers, Lottie Small, who recently sail on Maiden from Honolulu to Vancouver
When Lottie was 16, she first sailed with the RSP as a crew member after which she was invited to become a Watch Leader, a role she has been fulfilling exceptionally well ever since.
Sailing with the RSP has fostered in her a love for the sea and so she began studying Navigation and Maritime Science at the University of Plymouth in 2018, with the ambition of working towards a role as a professional seafarer. Somehow, she also finds time to fulfil a role as Training Officer for the University Yacht Club encouraging students of all abilities to take to the water. She is also an active member of the British Keelboat Academy honing her own sailing skills and opportunities through participating in various events.
Her first experience of offshore sailing was on the 2017 Sail Training International Tall Ships Races where she sailed the east coast of Canada with a group of young people on Rona II. As a result of this she continued to participate in a host of races both within the UK and Europe while also continuing to sail with the RSP.
Lottie’s ultimate goal is to participate in a race circumnavigating the globe, which we very much look forward to seeing her complete.
While on board Maiden, Lottie penned a blog which you can read here.
Well done Lottie!
