Partner Organisations
The Rona Sailing Project works with a number of partner organisations to provide extraordinary adventures for a broad range of people. Although our primary focus is young people, our partners work with vulnerable adults, people with specific disabilities and those suffering from long-term health conditions. If you would like to join one of these voyages it is normally best to contact our partner organisation but feel free to contact us for dates and basic requirements.
Gemini
The Gemini Sailing Project was set up in 1986 to take adults with severe learning disabilities Sail Training - see main image. It is a non-profit organisation run totally on a voluntary basis.
Four trips each year are organised, two in the Spring and a further two in the Autumn. The crew join the boat at Universal Marina at 11.00 am on day one and are back at the mooring ready to go home by 4.30 pm on day four.
The destinations will vary depending on weather and tide, but a typical trip will go to Cowes and/or Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth Harbour, Gosport and Southampton Water. The aim is not to go far, but to provide the experience of life on board a large boat and as many sailing experiences as possible within the timeframe.
Please contact Stephen Tobutt or Chris Matthews for more information.
Phoenix Futures
In association with Phoenix-Futures we have embarked on an initiative to run Voyages for people in recovery from substance misuse. While these Voyages are mainly targeted at adults in recovery, we also work with young people with a range of similar issues, in line with the therapeutic community (TC) model employed by Phoenix-Futures. We also do special ‘refits’ with Phoenix-Futures volunteers, which are very much in line with the TC model.

Oceans of Hope
In 2012, doctor and sailor Mikkel Anthonisen had the idea for a circumnavigation of the world with people with the disease sclerosis (MS) as an active crew. In creating Oceans of Hope, he started a new story about the possibilities as a human being in a strong community, despite illness or other limitations in life.
The Oceans of Hope UK organisation was set up by Robert Munns and Nicola Kaufman. Nicola and Robert took part in different legs of the Circumnavigation. Their experiences of sailing as part of this extraordinary crew left them both determined to improve the lives of others with MS.
