Here at the RSP, we are following government advice and closely monitoring updates in relation to COVID-19 and as a result we have suspended our operations. In the meantime our vessels, Rona II and Merrilyn remain safe ashore while Donald Searle and Lady Shona are securely moored up whilst our voyages are on hold. Our small team of staff are working from home, busily making preparations to get us sailing again as soon as it is safe to do so. Our dedicated volunteers eagerly await updates, their active support enables us to touch the lives of a large and disparate group of people, all of whom, in their own way, significantly benefit from an experience at sea.
The team are in the process of contacting those booked on to voyages to discuss options; deposits can be refunded or transferred on to a future voyage. Some people have waived their refund as a donation to the charity, an extremely generous act, which will help to keep us afloat and contribute to securing our future, as the suspension of activities has a serious impact on our income. Even though the vessels aren’t being used and operations are suspended, costs accumulate, which is challenging for us.
We are hoping some of our 2020 voyages will go ahead. Tens of thousands of young people have sailed with us since 1960, giving them the experience of a lifetime, greater self-confidence and a new perspective on the world. Following this period of disruption, isolation, trauma and uncertainty, young people and vulnerable adults will need these opportunities more than ever before.
The Rona Sailing Project has steered through countless storms since it was founded 60 years ago. Transforming the lives of the young people as they build their resilience for future uncertainties, responsibility, resourcefulness and teamwork which will help them throughout their lives. The Rona Sailing Project has weathered storms before and with your support now by making a donation or by booking on to future voyages we will keep on sailing for another 60 years.
If you would like to contact us to discuss a deposit, voyage or donation please contact ann@ronasailingproject.org.uk and she will be very happy to help.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers, donors and friends for their incredible support in what are very challenging times for us all.
